Today I completed my lesson having the students finish up their
project while listening to music. I began by reviewing what shape, line,
and color meant and then wrote three sentences on the board for the
students to pick up a lined piece of paper and answer. The students had
to talk to me prior to writing their sentences though and making sure
they were completed. I had a lot of students go back and draw either
more different shapes, different lines, or add some different colors.
They were a little better behaved today and worked more quietly than
the other days, so it was really nice to have the jazz music on.
Next
time I teach I will make sure to be more clear on my directions as far
as their reflections went. I forgot to tell them to write full sentence
responses to the three sentences, so many of them just wrote what type
of lines they used, what type of shapes they used, and a single word
stating how they felt while listening to the jazz music. I couldn't
really go back on my directions for how they needed to answer these
questions, so this is just a point to remember for next time.
Overall
I think the lesson was very successful and the students were very
creative in what they came up with for their projects. The students
seemed very passionate and interested in their projects, really getting
into the jazz music, and being very creative in which instruments,
shapes, and what their people looked like in the drawings. All in all I
had a very good experience and I gained a lot more confidence in my
teaching. I think I also improved my teaching voice and persona as well,
however there is still room for improvement. Watching my videos of my
teaching over again I found my voice to be much louder and clearer than
from my 208 teaching. I felt much more comfortable in my teaching and
lesson plans for this experience.
